Peninsula Paris

Tea O'Clock

Afternoon tea is always a gorgeously decadent treat, no matter where you are…

But there’s something about the Peninsula Hotel in Paris, with its luxurious setting at Le Lobby, impeccable service, and live music of the chamber orchestra that take afternoon tea to a whole other glamorous, stylish and fabulously elegant level. The iconic Peninsula oozes class from the moment you enter – brightly lit and sparkles wherever you look. Perfectly situated at 19 Avenue Kléber, just steps from the Arc de Triomphe, The Peninsula sits in the heart of Paris within walking distance of some of the world’s most famous monuments, museums, and luxury shopping districts.

Our waiter for our visit greeted us with a warm smile and explained the afternoon tea options in detail. Having viewed the menu before our visit, we were curious about the patisserie option. Our afternoon teas arrived, again on solid silver tea stands, with the pastries taking pride of place on the top tier.

I must admit that the food was really good. It always surprises me how many afternoon teas look beautiful but taste like cardboard. For me, the pastries have to appeal to the taste buds as much as they do to the eyes. Frankly speaking, the pastries at Peninsula were just excellent. There was a really good selection bursting with taste and just right. Chocolate and hazelnut cookie was one of the tastiest pastries I have ever had!

Also. two classic English scones each are soft and warmed through, accompanied by a lovely selection of clotted cream, lemon curd, and two homemade jams.

There is nothing quite like a scone with cream and jam. Having one on the terrace of the finest Parisienne hotel adds that little bit of magic too.

Amongst the savory snacks, the salmon finger sandwich was my favorite. Each bite was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor, without being overwhelming. The stunning visual was matched by an equally stunning taste. Top marks all round and a joy to behold!

If there’s one place in Paris I would happily eat breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or even have cocktails- it would be Peninsula Paris. To be totally honest, I’d gladly even sit in there without food just to admire the amazing interiors of L’Oiseau Blanc, Le Lobby, or on La Terrasse Kléber, the largest terrace in Paris.
