Today, I’d like to share more about my little Swiss escape that left me oh so rejuvenated. What makes or breaks a perfect getaway is, in my opinion, the hotel (are you surprised?!). And boy, a few weeks ago we stayed in a hidden gem! Romantik Hotel Schweizerhof Grindelwald is a luxury haven secluded with gardens and the impressive backdrop of the famous Eiger and Lauberhorn mountains.    

We had a room that was spacious and immaculately presented as well as being warm and cozy too. All of the rooms and facilities are 5 stars and have such a luxurious feel.

Inside the room, aside from just the gorgeous view, we found a king-size bed as well as a living area with a working area and flat screen tv, a walk-in wardrobe, and of course a lovely bathroom.

The extras such as complimentary toiletries, all-inclusive room service, and a fully-stocked mini-bar just made our stay that bit more special. The views from this hotel are absolutely spectacular – we enjoyed them each day after arriving back from our hikes. You look directly at the looming mountains from the balcony, and the morning sunrise peeks out between the Mettenberg and Eiger.

I can’t think of a better place to enjoy a hot tea and admire the mountains after a long day of walking.

The other thing worth mentioning are the staff and managers at Hotel Romantik. Believe me – they really do know how to provide a luxury experience to match the surroundings. It was clear that they take great pride in maintaining the property to a high standard and making sure their guests are well cared for. We appreciated the activity recommendations and the fact that they helped us with everything, never getting irritated from my requests (sometimes I’m super meticulous about the service, even nasty).

Nothing is ever too challenging for the staff at Hotel Romantik and it’s like they know your thoughts before you’ve even spoken them. I would literally think to myself ‘I’d love to go see the glacier’, and then before I knew it, John Alonso, marketing manager of the Hotel would take us there. I couldn’t have asked for more hospitality and kindness — the people at this hotel made our days in Grindelwald so comfortable.

I’ll be honest with you, I don’t know where to start with the food, other than saying it was absolutely outstanding and for me, was one of the highlights that made the holiday so special.

We started the day with a mouthwatering breakfast and ended it with the tastiest dinner at Restaurant Alpterrassen.

Just as the accommodation, perfect cuisine and the hospitality in Hotel Romantik had been so wonderful, the staff also invited me try on a traditional Swiss outfit – dirndl, a very feminine dress, with pretty and extraordinary accessories.

Traditionally, Swiss women would wear colorful smocked dresses with puffed sleeves and tight ribbon crest tops, aprons, lace bonnets or other offbeat headdresses, stockings, shoes and embroidered bags. Women use to wear these costumes for special occasions, for example, for a big costume dance festival that takes place on the Höhematte in Interlaken. I would be very happy to visit such a festival wearing traditional Swiss clothes (or at least the next Octoberfest, hah!).

Also, we had a great spa experience. Schweizerhof Spa awaits tourists with a heated indoor pool, sun terrace, steam bath, bio sauna, Finn sauna, glacier grotto, tropical rain shower and private spa.

We tried everything on offer and there was nothing more soothing than overlooking the mountains and taking in some deep breaths afterward.

On the website, they usually offer some spa deals, so if you’re thinking of visiting, have a browse beforehand.
