Located 26 kilometers to the south-west of Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj offers a larger expanse of untouched beauty, with Mount Triglav majestically looming in the background. As an avid traveler and adventurer, I can attest that Lake Bohinj has plenty to offer, particularly for cycling enthusiasts.
One of my favorite activities in Lake Bohinj is cycling along the picturesque and delightfully flat road that runs along the southern shore. This scenic route leads you directly to the mesmerizing Savica Waterfall, and I've had the pleasure of embarking on this cycling journey several times. Pedaling at a leisurely pace, I reveled in the beauty of the surrounding landscape, with the sparkling lake on one side and towering mountains on the other. The gentle breeze caressed my face as I soaked in the idyllic scenery, making it an experience to remember.
For a truly immersive and unforgettable experience, I highly recommend exploring the traditional villages of Stara Fužina and Studor on a bicycle. These villages boast charming old-style barns and unique hayracks, which add a touch of rustic authenticity to the already captivating scenery. Riding through these villages on a bike allowed me to truly connect with the local culture and heritage. I pedaled at my own pace, stopping occasionally to admire the traditional architecture and soak up the warm hospitality of the locals. It felt like I had stepped back in time, exploring a bygone era while surrounded by the beauty of nature.
If you're seeking a more exhilarating cycling experience, Lake Bohinj won't disappoint. I recommend obtaining a copy of the Kolesarske Poti/Cycling Routes map from the local tourist office. This handy guide lists a variety of challenging on- and off-road trails, catering to all skill levels. One trail that stood out to me was the descent from Mount Vogel to the lake, following an awe-inspiring cable car ascent of over 1500 meters to the Vogel ski center. The adrenaline rush and the stunning panoramic views make this adventure truly unforgettable. Don't worry if you don't have a bike with you—several agencies, such as Alpinsport, offer mountain bike and bicycle rentals at affordable prices, conveniently located by the lake in Ribčev Laz.
